A Regular Cigarette

Various scientific researches has shown that cigarette smoke contains approximately 4,800 chemical substances & compounds, many of which are harmful to the human body, with 25 diseases directly related to smoking. The carbon monoxide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and nitrosamine in cigarette smoke are considered the most dangerous carcinogenic substances.
Second-hand or passive smoking has allegedly caused serious health issues for men, women and children. Many countries have already or will soon be banning smoking in public places. A ban came into force in the UK on 1st July 2007.

It has been found that there are approximately 4,800 chemicals in regular cigarettes and in the smoke they produce. Out of those 4,800 chemicals, 43 have been specifically identified to cause cancer.
The Electronic Cigarette is the result of research and development of a non-flammable cigarette substitute. You can use the Electronic Cigarette for many purposes and you can enjoy your pleasure in a healthier manner.

What is the Electronic Cigarette?

The Electronic Cigarette is a revolutionary electronic device, which can be used like a normal cigarette. However there is:

  • No tar
  • No Ignition
  • No bad smells
  • None of the 4800 chemicals associated with a normal lit cigarette

It is a new way for users of regular tobacco based cigarettes to regulate and control their nicotine intake and CAN BE used in public places.

How does the Electronic Cigarette Work?

The Electronic Cigarette is essentially made up of the following 4 main parts:

  • A mouthpiece - Holds the cartridge and inhaled upon
  • Cartridge containing Nicotine - Different dosages possible
  • Atomizer - Converts contents of the cartridge into a vapour
  • Battery - Powers the device

The user inhales on the electronic cigarette and this causes an air flow sensor to signal and activate the inbuilt microprocessor within the atomizer.
The atomizer, through a process of atomization,  converts the liquid nicotine in the cartridge into a vapour  which can then be consumed by the user.
Simultaneously, a WATER based vapour is released from the glycol by the atomizer to resemble 'smoke'. The advantage of this smoke is that as it is a water vapour, it is non-polluting and has no risk to its user or persons around them.

What is in the Cartridge?

The base liquid of the cartridge is a mixture of liquid-nicotine available as High 14mg, MED 11mg, Low8mg or None 0mg; tobacco extract flavourings and Propylene glycol.
Essentially the base liquid contains no harmful chemicals; this is the main advantage over the typical tobacco based cigarette.

What is Propylene glycol ?

'Also known as propane-1,2-diol,  it is an organic compound, usually a faint sweet, odourless, and colourless clear viscous(thick & sticky) liquid that is hygroscopic( absorbs water from the air) and miscible(capable of mixing with water) with water, acetone and chloroform.Wikepedia October 2008
As well as being used in electronic cigarettes to make the produced vapour better resemble cigarette smoke, Propylene Glycol also has the following common applications:

  • As a moisturiser in medicine, cosmetics, food, toothpaste, mouth wash and tobacco products.
  • As a medical and sexual lubricant.
  • As an emulsifier (prevents separation) in Angostura and orange bitters.
  • As a solvent for food colourings and flavourings.
  • As a humectant (to keep product moist) food additive labelled E1520.
  • As a carrier in fragrance oils.
  • As a less toxic anti freeze (sounds scary, but it will be because of it's nature as an emulsifier).
  • As a solvent used in photographic chemicals.
  • In hand sanitizer lotions.

It should be noted that any long term effects of propylene glycol being inhaled  are unanswered at this time. What is known and certain is that regular cigarettes are certainly known without doubt to stand a good chance of causing one of many diseases many of which can be fatal.

Important

The electronic cigarette is an alternative to smoking a traditional tobacco based cigarette, it is not a Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Please consult your GP or smoking cessation clinic regarding Nicotine Replacement Therapies. WARNING: Not to be used by persons under the age of 18 years or have a sensitivity to nicotine, pregnant, breastfeeding or have unstable heart condition.
